Personality Disorder

from Everybody's Nobody by Dream Cities

/

about

The first single released by four-peace (pun intended) of Dream Cities, “Personality Disorder” is a banger combo of sludgy, dissonant guitars and glitchy beats that channels the agoraphobic feeling of being surrounded by assholes, none more so than yourself. At a certain stage of adult disillusionment, one feels like they have joined society only to have been welcomed to the asylum, where various doppelgangers and reincarnations of Nurse Ratchet label you with all kinds diseases and ailments. Owning your difference and hurts, at a certain breaking point you reply with a big upturned middle finger and “fuck off” for the psychological prison you’re in. “Personality disorder” is the end product of our individual and collective efforts to find freedom and self-acceptance by raging our asses off.

Western Sydney MC Ello C goes very H.A.M, as he stakes out his claim and space in the Aus rap scene, having buckled under the pressure to release new material for a couple of years and reinvent himself as a frontman capable of owning an experimental rock backing track. The Dream Cities trio provide ample backing power chords and poltergeist-like effects and breaks to bolster the break out from the straight-jacket of imposed identity and norms.

lyrics

Verse 1.
Everywhere's where the fake be at, made to identify and trace the tracks
There wasn’t anybody telling me to suss the facts, so later on I embraced where I’m clearly at
Cause I can’t trust nobody, and I keep my circle minor
And it’s easier to put the hate on me then to be loved for the lies said prior
Forgetting that fan fair and that status, that propaganda you feed off
Fuck that validation, I be lacking patience, I relaxed and waited now I’m back to take it like -
Master P shit, took a little break now I’m back to beat ya
No beast I’m a demon like I beat the preacher proven once again
when you blast your speakers like --
Never gon' lose my grip don’t expect me to hand it over, I’m a ball hog for that buzzer
Bust your balls and laugh with my brothers, man Im piss taking this verse
While you's pissed mad with that hurt, and if my audience is one person ?
then it’s me hearing me murk (FUCK EM)

Hook
Turn it, turn it loud I said turn it loud
You ain’t heard what we about, you gon’ know this now

Verse 2.
You wanna be the talk of the town ? but really you don’t wanna know about hustle
So Im’a call em’ out and try test you, words that’ll raise the roof in our section
Proof that I’ve caused a lot of that tension, light up the match to burn if I’m mentioned
Lost in a scene that’s all a big act, so where the fuck is your purpose at ?
They speaking all of that “ trap banter “ but I’ve grown up to be smarter
And them same cunt’s that wanna beat me down don’t even come close to what I’ve conquered
All my old bars just don’t work no more I’m treating this like therapy
So I’m not part of that Aus scene cause my rap styles a discrepancy ?!
I don’t rob I don’t drug deal I don’t throw cash I just do me
If you’re not down with my lifestyle then you’re on mute when you all speak

Bridge
What you concerned about ? we took a different a route
No time for chatter see what matters is that focus out
They seem addicted to it ? soon as they hear that sound
Let em talk fuck em all let em fall
